Study Abroad Faculty Information

In partnership with the Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS), faculty have the opportunity to teach classes in locations around the world. Course offerings are numerous and encompass all campus divisions. Recent examples include Criminology in Spain, Literature and Art in India, and 心理学 in England. Faculty from all departments are invited to apply to teach in study abroad programs.


Consortium Model TnCIS Programs

Full-time Vol State faculty are encouraged to apply to teach a course in their field in an existing TnCIS program. Program descriptions and detailed application instructions are available on the consortium model program page.

Complete application packets, including all supporting documents and the signed institutional approval form are due to the TnCIS office by February 1 each year for the summer of the following year. For example, applications to teach abroad in June 2022 will be due by February 1, 2021. Faculty may use the Vol State Study Abroad Program 应用 to propose a faculty-led study abroad program outside of the regular TnCIS summer schedule. Program applications are due October 15th each year for potential trips in the spring or summer of the following academic year. You will be invited to present your proposal to the International Committee at the November meeting.


Vol State faculty-led study abroad programs are administered by TnCIS as partnership programs. If your proposal is approved by the 国际教育 committee, the next step will be for each individual faculty member to complete a TnCIS Institution Specific Partnership Program application online at Complete partnership program applications are due February 1 and require the following elements for every faculty member included in the program proposal:

  1. Signed Partnership Program Institutional Approval Form
  2. 简短形式的简历
  3. Official Transcripts for SACSCOC verification purposes
  4. A syllabus for each course using the TnCIS Syllabus Outline (requires a .doc or .docx file)

Faculty may also apply to teach abroad in a summer TnCIS program on the TnCIS website as part of the consortium.
